Status of Women Committee

[Here is a list of some of the expectations and duties related to this portfolio.]

These are "draft terms of reference' pending District / TBU / ESS / OTBU Approval.

 

Terms of Reference

(a)     To monitor regularly the professional status of women Members of OSSTF and to advise the District/Bargaining Unit on the need for appropriate action with respect to any developing trends.

(b)     To provide a forum for the discussion of issues relevant to women in OSSTF.

(c)      To recommend to the District/Bargaining Units research and educational programs designed to promote equality of opportunity with specific reference to women Members.

(d)     To maintain liaison with provincial standing committees and councils  concerning the status and proportional representation of women in OSSTF, and to provide assistance to district/bargaining units in meeting the needs of women Members.  

(e)      To provide Districts/Bargaining Units with assistance in establishing goals and directions for local Status of Women committees.

(f)      To give input to the Provincial Status of Women Committee on an annual basis, goals to be achieved in order to implement the OSSTF affirmative action statements and ways to remove barriers to women so they can participate fully in OSSTF.  

(g)     To continue to report on proportional representation of women at various levels within the Federation.  

(h)     To maintain an effective communications network between the Districts/Bargaining Units, and the Provincial organization with respect to women's  issues.

(i)      To encourage and promote respect for the rights and the diverse needs of all

(j)    To recommend targets, priorities, and programs to the Provincial Status of Women Committee.

(k)     To meet jointly at least once per year with the Human Rights Committee.  

(l)      To develop and provide regional and/or local outreach workshops for members.  

 

Human Rights Committee

These are "draft terms of reference' pending District/ TBU/ ESS / OTBU Approval.

 

Terms of Reference

 (a)    To recommend to the Provincial Human Rights Committee, on a regular basis, goals to be achieved in order to safeguard all of the human rights of members and to ensure that none of the human rights enjoyed by other Ontario residents shall be denied to members.  

(b)     To recommend to the Provincial Committee policies and actions that will uphold the objects of the Federation to ensure equity and inclusiveness in the workplace.  

(c)      To provide a forum to inform, discuss, and advise on human rights issues relevant to the professional careers of all members.  

(d)     To establish and maintain an effective communications network between the District/Bargaining Units and the provincial organization with respect to human rights issues.  

(e)      To maintain liaison with provincial standing committees and councils concerning human rights issues.

(f)      To recommend priorities and programs to the Provincial Committee.

(g)     To develop local committees to address the human rights concerns of members.

(h)     To assist members to recognize and appreciate the contribution of people of  different racial groups, creeds, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientation and  mental or physical abilities.

(i)      To provide advice and recommendations to the Provincial Committee on matters pertaining to International Assistance activities, global human rights, and other matters as may be referred to it by the Provincial Executive.  

(j)      To meet jointly at least once per year with the District/Bargaining Units Status of Women Committee.

Labour Council Representatives

These are "draft terms of reference' pending District / TBU/ ESS/ OTBU Approval.

 

Terms of Reference

Note:  This is a District Standing Committee whereby Members of the each   Bargaining Unit are asked to submit the name of a member who will   attend the local Labour Council Meeting and the Member elected will submit a Report to the District after each Labour Council Meeting.

 

  • (a) Attend local Labour Council Meetings and submit a Report to the District/ Bargaining Unit after each Meeting.
  • (b) Will support and endorse the initiatives developed by the Labour Council .
  • (c) Will provide members with pertinent information that is forwarded to them from the Labour Council to the District/ Bargaining Unit.
  • (d) Will disseminate information, surveys, petitions, etc. to District/ Bargaining Unit members in compliance with the Labour Council directives or requests.
  • (e) Encourage OSSTF Members to get involved in the labour movement at whatever level - local, provincial or federal.
  • (f) Support the policies of the Canadian Labour Council.
  • (g) To disseminate information or changes related to Health & Safety regulations in the appropriate Health & Safety Officers and Workplace Reps.
